On Tuesday, December 2oth, we celebrated ourselves as authors! Our fellow grade four students from Mrs. Connor's room, Ms. Moseley, our Principal, Mrs. Carey, our Vice Principal, Mrs. Simms, our school's Methods and Resource teacher and Mrs. Barrieau, a Literacy Lead from the District 8 Office came to view our hard work. These books were a secret project as the books were gifts for the student's families for Christmas. I sure hope they were surprised! Each student wrote their own Christmas themed stories and after going through the writing process, published them in a paperbag format. The finished format is three paper bags stapled together, then covered with illustrated pages, which provided three pockets for trinkets, letters and photos. Below is a scrapbook of our Author's Celebration as well as each student's published book. I am truly proud of each of my students! They did a fantastic job!

Non-fiction Author's Celebration!
We had another wonderful Author's Celebration on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 to celebrate our non-fiction writing. We completed a unit on procedural writing and concluded it by publishing a class book. Each student wrote a how-to on a topic of their choice. Mrs. Duff created a table of contents and a cover and each student received a copy. We enjoyed signing each others books!
We also celebrated our individual research booklets on a topic of our choice as well. Miss Gault, our student intern, taught the students all about text features in reading and then we applied them in our writing. The booklets were a piece of paper folded in four. Each student completed research on a topic and had to include three facts, a title, headings, and a photo or diagram. Amazing work!
We enjoyed the company of our Vice Principal, Mrs. Carey and Mrs. Barrieau, our District Literacy Lead. Hot chocolate and homemade muffins were a nice touch! Check out some photos in our slideshow!
