I am not sure where January went, but now that it is coming to an end, I realize we have gotten lots done! We are deep into practicing the text form, procedural writing, as well as inferring and predicting as we read. We have also been focusing on bold beginnings, mighty middles and excellent endings! As you can see, we are enjoying our imaginary trip across Canada. In Math, Mrs. Carey and Miss Conley are keeping the students busy! Mrs. Connor has been leading the grade 4 students in a program called, SipSmart....we have learned a great deal about what we drink. Ask your child about a can of pop and how much sugar you will find in one can. Of course, we completed amazing projects on Space and talked to an astronaut! January was awesome, even though we were cold!
We are having a Duffmart tomorrow....which is interesting to see that the students who have been faithful to return their homework books on Fridays and complete their daily reading are rolling in the dough. Those students without sneakers are also losing cash! Bring those sneakers in as well as homework books and reading logs. That is where the money is.
I am looking forward to seeing all of the amazing Space board games tomorrow. Don't forget to check the rubric under the Assignment tab to ensure you have everything done! Aim for all fives in every column!
We have begun a huge Grade 4 project about Canada. We are travelling across Canada on an imaginary trip learning about our beautiful country that we call home. Please follow along on our adventures by reading our blog. Feel free to comment or ask us questions as we explore Canada.
What a day we had at Saint Rose School....a once in a lifetime experience! Here is a video with a smatter of clips from our talk with Commander Chris Hadfield on the International Space Station! I took over a 100 pictures, which I will upload to our site this weekend! Keep an eye on the Space page under the Gr.4 tab. (This is my son, Jacob, who also was one of the lucky ones who spoke to our Cdn. astronaut from Barnhill School.)
Welcome back to school on Wednesday, January 9th, 2013! I hope everyone is well rested and ready to get back to work! I know I am excited to be back.I would also like to welcome Miss Conley to our classroom as a UNBSJ intern. I hope she enjoys her stay with us as she completes her teaching internship. We will be sadly saying good-bye and thank you to Miss Ricketts, our co-op student from SJHS. We wish her the best as she graduates this June and pursues her plans to become a teacher!
We are every excited to take part in the wonderful opportunity to speak to ISS next week. We will also be sharing what we learned about space over the next two weeks. We will even explore in a planterarium!
I have uploaded many new photos and slide shows about what we have been up to...take a peek! I hope your family members enjoyed the books we published in their honour.
Mrs. Duff and her students will keep you posted on what we are up to!
